Poland represents the Eastern-central part of Europe and the former communist societies. Data collection in Poland was restricted to media reports. Access was granted to the digital archives of the main national news agency PAP, of two main national newspapers and of a number of regional and local newspapers which jointly run a digital media archive. The full-text search using a complex search string yielded a total number of 253 cases. Judging from the increase of cases during the late 1990s, it can be assumed that media coverage of homicide-suicide was incomplete during the former years and became more comprehensive during the reporting period.
